That piqued my curiosity so I looked it up - good old Wikipedia. Reading through it now. Apparently it's a type of echinoderm, related to starfish and sea urchins and it's a filter feeder.

Looks pretty, lots of stores stock it and people buy it.

Generally starves to death within a year. Haven't actually heard of a single case of someone successfully maintaining it long term.

Correct, that is a Crinoid, a.k.a. Feather Star.
They are suspension feeders; they rely on ocean currents to deliver their food which consists of mostly zooplankton and coral spawn. These beautiful animals should really be left in the ocean, most of them rarely survive in captivity for more than a few weeks.
