I recently purchased two single fin fantail comets and two single fin fantail goldfish. They have settled relatively well into my aquarium. I also have two small plecto's and a pictus catfish. They don't seem to bother each other. The problem I'm having is the damage to my fantails fins. they are constantly shredded. I was advised that the cats would not bother the fantails, which I have to say from numerous hours watching the aquarium seems to be true. I'm uncertain whether my tank decorations could be causing the damage or whether I'm missing something vital.???? The fish seem in good health feeding, swimming and active. Any advice on fantails and keeping their fins and tails healthy would be appreciated. :?

Please try and identify your goldfish as comets are single tailed and fantails are always double tailed.

They need cooler water than the pictus and plecos which are tropical.
Pictus are nocturnal and could be nipping after lights out but sharp decor can damage fins as can fin rot if conditions are not optimum.

Any chance of a photo and what are the tank and water parameters please?

Also, how big is your tank?
