Petsmart's website said that RTBS juveniles should be fed greens in order to have more vibrant colors as adults. I have trained myself to never trust a Petsmart claim, but I was just wondering if there is any truth to this statement.
P.S.: I plan on adding a RTBS to my tank sometime in the near future. _________________

I have never kept rtbs but I've read that they are herbivorous so you should feed them vegetable based flake food supplimented with fresh vegetables to keep them the healthiest.

I've kept these before and yes I think veggies is a plus. but I reccomend them in pellet form. it takes them awhile to realise that the veggies in your tank are edible unless u can put some garlic extract. zucchini is a winner with garlic extract or blanched carrots _________________ I belive fish hav longer memories than 3 seconds. Lol... "near future"... I ended up buying one today. I'll be sure to give it greens. _________________

Veggies do help them stay in good shape, however not all of them contributes to colour enhancement. The red pigment on the tail is mainly astaxanthin, a carotenoid. Therefore it would be ideal to supply them with boiled carrots or peas, which both contain relatively high Vitamin A.
Also spirulina tabs for fish helps a lot in colour enhancement. They can be fed regularly even into adult stages. The proteins in there also keeps the fish healthy.
Hopefully this would be helpful

I bought some algae today. I usually buy Hikari algae wafers for fish, but I was at Walmart, so I bought Wardley algae discs. The main ingredient is spirulina. _________________

| Good old sinking algae wafers are the way to go. Also some frozen peas with the shells removed from time to time is great for them and mine loved them. |
