I thought the CF bulbs had burned out so I replaced them. The shop tested them and they worked fine. When I got them home and plugged in they did not light. I checked connections on the lighting rig and none of the wire nuts are loose. I'm wondering if the ballast has gone out. It's from an AHS supply kit and has been running for about 3 years. The lights are on a timer and run about 8 hours a day. Is that a reasonable lifespan for a ballast?

I am unaware of the lifespan of ballasts, however, I have not yet had one break down yet.

Replacing the ballast should not be too difficult, however. Try it and see if that remedies your problem.

If you had any hum or flicker then I would defiantly sat the ballast is bad. Life span is anywhere from 2-10 years It all depends on usage. I'm pretty sure timers shorten the lifespans though.

Fern, yes, I had noticed some flicker but had chalked it up to old bulbs. I will replace the ballast and hope that does the trick. Thanks!
