so I have a 20 G reef tank with a HUGE canister filter, UV light and a skimmer which is a cheap (not working) type unfotunetly.

what kinds of chemical media can I use to make up for this ? I currently only have carbon, and phosphate remover.

Carbon and phosphate remover are the standards that most of us use. In my nearly 20 years keeping marines, I've never seen the need for anything else. Your money would be best saved for a future skimmer upgrade!
