Can anyone of you help me with definitive id on these. I have 8 of them at about 1 - 1.5cm each. I bought them as African "Leuchtaugenfische" (I live in Austria) this literally means "light eye fish". I am thinking some form of Poeciliidae and thought maybe Micropanchax johnstoni but I would love to be sure. They spend most of the time at the surface. Very blue eye strip and most of the time I could swear that their fins have a yellow tinge. Very difficult to get a proper photograph but here are my best efforts so far.

and

thanks

Possibly Norman's lampeye, Aplocheilichthys normani.

It is hard to tell from your pictures but comparing the images in the link to your fish should help. Does the body shape match if the colour doesn't?

Thanks Sue, I think you might have hit the nail on the head there. Here is another pic which I have blown up just in case:

Of course "Lampeye" would be the natural translation. I must have been taking stupid tablets this morning! I have been using Mergus Aquarium Atlas which is in German and so did not really know where to start as I don't think this website has many "lampeyes" in the gallery. Do you happen to know if this atlas is also published in English?

Matthew
