Hey. I wonder if I could add some live sand in my tank that is aleardy establish? The reason is that when I first got my tank, the LFS told me that I had enought sand in it. I read a couple of article on the internet and they approx all recommend at least 1-3 inch, I don't have even 1 inch! Maybe 1/2.


Would it be recommend to get more? Or since my tank is aleady establish, just let it run with the actual sand bed?

you can add more if you like, I would not go beyond 1-1/2" but what you have will not cause problems.

adding more live sand will most likely just increase the diversity of the detrivores that inhabit the sand bed. if you decide to go over 3" which is a deep sand bed then you'll have to add live sand or sand from some one elses dsb every now and then to make sure the diversity of detrivores is sufficient. for more information on deep sand beds and thier benifits read:
