I want to know if this is a good/decent filter to either replace my current hob filter or supplement it.

If this is a good filter how do I go about changing filters, should I just run both for a while untill the new one can build up bacteria, or should I put some of my old media in the new filter?

I don't know anything about that particular filter, but if you're looking for a good HOB I'd personally recommend an Aquaclear. They are cheaper than the one you linked, available at most stores, allow you to use your own filter media, and are very reliable. The Aquaclear 50 is compariable to the one you linked to and is $18 from Petco. If you go to a site like BigAlsonline.com or even Petsmart.com you may be able to find it even cheaper than that.

Here's the Petco link:

As for switching the filters over...I recommend just running the two filters together on the tank for two to three weeks and then removing the old filter. That should be plenty of time for a bacteria colony to form in the new filter.
