1) what plants are good for the front of an aquarium?

2)I'm looking for something that will grow towards the light and then float across the surface of the water like brazilian pennywort.

Here is a picture of what I'm talking about. The pennywort is on the left.

A possibility you might look into would be Jungle Vals: http://naturalaquariums.com/plants/valgigantea.html. I have them in my 55 gln. and 20 gln. and regularily cut them and replant them. However, mine is a very low light tank so they don't grow as quickly as they could.

Thanks Cinder. It is a really pretty plant and has the affect that I was going for.

For plants at the front you could go with crypts. If you have more light you could do dwarf hairgrass. Maybe you could try a water lilie. They grow until they are at he surface to get as much light as they can but then they steal light from the other plants underneath it.
