I had a saltwater set awhile ago. I had to take it down because I don't have the time for the maintenance. I want to use the protein skimmer from that setup. Is there any benefit from using a protein skimmer on a fresh water setup. I know on the saltwater setup it removes the waste from the water, but not sure if the same applies to freshwater. Please let me know

you should take some time to read aquariaplants.com. it should have all the questions you need to get started with a planted tank. good luck.

No. I'm pretty sure that the dynamics of a protein skimmer only makes it useful in the saltwater aquarium. Do you know how a skimmer works?
Its something to do with the density of saltwater compared with freshwater or something like that, which means the tiny bubbles in a protein skimmer can only gather DOC's in marine tanks.
Hope this kinda makes sense.
