Can you can still take it out of the tank. Just make sure you sprinkle a bit of water on it from time to time to make sure it stays moist. Both the moss and fern can live sort of in the water and on land. Just so long as they stay wet they'll be fine.

If you want to put them on different pieces that is up to you and the look you are going for. Probably make sure that they both have enough room so they don't choke each other out.

You should tie just the roots and the rhizome of the fern to the wood, and for the moss lay it down thinnly and flat and wrap the thread around it several times. The thinner you apply it the better and healthier it will grow.

What I usually do is take what ever I am applying the moss to and put it on a plastic bag, so when I have to wet the moss the water doesn't get on the floor.

Have you checked this plant out in the garden section? There you can read personal experiences with the moss. You can also find how to make a java moss coconut house. That might be something you could use as a sort of cave. Or you could read how to make it a foreground plant.

I don't know what I'd do without this board! I'm still doing a lot of reading. I'm going to go to a different lps tomorrow to see if they have the java moss. It's also where I can get the driftwood, so I'm going look at the pieces they have and decide if I want another one right now or not.

Me again...What are some good taller plants that I can get for the background? Water sprite, wisteria? Sword? I'd love to hear some opinions on these!

Wisteria is a good choice, I have had success with it with only 1 flourescent tube, some liquid fertiliser, plain old gravel and no co2 injections (as I stated in my first post on this thread, look there for more info and links).

I have found that Swords are quite difficult.

Check out the 'garden' section on this website - has some very useful information.

I should have checked here before I left the house. I took my dog to the lps and came back with a huge sword plant. So, now what. It's a lot bigger than it seemed at the store. I've got 2 leaves that would end up above the water level if straightened out, and I've got a couple of stems with several sprouts. My understanding is that I can trim the sprouts and plant them to grow more plants. How do I doo this? Do I cut some of the stem with the sprout, or just cut beneath the root of the sprout. Again, I appreciate all the help!

I took the sword plant back to the store and got a batch of Wisteria. We'll see what happens! I still want to get the Java Moss! I just have to find some!
