I've got a bunch of aquariums and have enjoyed fish for years, but never got into live plants. I recently helped a friend set up a tank and she wanted live plants. Her tank looked so good I went out and bought 2 Radicon swords myself for one (or more) of my tanks, but literally have no clue what to do with/for them.

So far, all I have done is buy the plants and set them in the tank. They're potted in plastic basket-looking things. Do I leave them in those and bury them in the substrate (gravel)? Do I take them out and anchor them with something else?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The correct name is "radicans sword" (Echinodorus cordifolius or E. radicans). Take them out of the plastic basket, remove/wash out all the material that the roots are surrounded in, then gently insert it into your gravel until all the roots are completely covered. After that, come back online and go do some reading on the basic requirements of a planted tank Wink

Just some links to help you start. rexgrigg was the one I used mostly. Any other questions feel free to post here or PM me. I'm no pro but I just went through this a few month ago.
