My Siamese algae eaters seem to be dropping off from some type of fungus that then turns to a red ulcer.. One died from it two weeks ago, now tow more have the exact same symptoms...

they are all approximatley 6 years old, and they are about 5+ inches long.

it starts as a small white patch along the midline of the body, about half way between head and tail.. it then gets bigger and turns to a red ulcer. Also now hav sam thing at base of tail, by fin.

I have been treating with melafix but have seen no improvement...

tnak is 70 gallon fully planted (which is why I have been trying to avoid medicating the tank as last time I did I killed half the plants) with pressurized CO2 system

tank inhabitants

4 clown loaches
4 sae's ( well one died, and now two are sick with the same thng)
3 rosy barbs (one male two femal)
2 black ruby barbs
2 bristle nose plecos (male and female)
some other fish who I nver see , one cory cat, who appears every copuple months.. may be more than one..

water levels

pH - 7.4
amonia - 0
nitrate - less than .05 (lowest traceable amount on my test kit.. it maybe .5 I don't have the thing in front of me)


no new fish added to the tank in over a year...

I did addd a new sword plant about a month ago? but the first fish was already sick and I had gone to the petstore to buy the melafix...

sorry the pH is 7.0.. with the Co2 system.. 7.4 is the normal pH of the city water...

Looks a bit like a TB sore, not sure exactly what it is but quarantine immediately and take care. It doesn't look pleasant and could definitely be contagious...are you quarantining all new arrivals?

I haven't had any new fish in about a year or more... I did have a quarantine tank but I gave it to someone...

only my SAE's are affected... dropping off one by one.. (another one died last night...
