I am going to get another heater for my tank, I have my heater set at its lowest setting and the tanks temperature has stayed at 80, but yesterday for some reason it crept up to the 82/84 range. My three Convicts, one JD, and one GT appeared to become really aggressive towards each other. They are all young and rarely fight but they begin snapping at each other. When I fed them they actually fought over the food. Once I unplugged the heater and the temp went down after a couple hours they calmed back down. It appears I need a much smaller heater. The Temp was around 78 this morning and they appear to have gone back to normal. I am assuming the heat excessive heat cause this. Has anyone else ever seen this?

It could well affect fish (It seems to work on people in New York).

A heater should have an inbuilt thermostat, that will cut the heater, when the temp rises, is yours defective?

What size tank is it and what size heater? What is your ambient temperature (Room temp).

I have a 48 gal tank, I just unplugged the heater, and I am going to buy a new one. The temp is now between 74 and 78 degrees. They are all doing fine.
