Hi,
I've been wondering if anyone else does what I do - I put a piece of foam on the HOB filter intake. I cut a hole in the square piece of foam, and stick it over the intake.

I think this has the advantage of keeping the edible filtered material within reach of fish instead of rotting inside the HOB filter. Maybe it's a little less pretty, but I don't care about that.

Does anyone know of other sources for foam besides the stuff that petshops sell? It seems kinda expensive to pay $3 for a little piece of foam. Are there fish-safe foam in hardware stores that could be used for filtering purposes?

I've been using AquaClear foam inserts.

Thanks,
Eric

I would be careful about getting foam at hardware stores since a lot of it is probably treated with anti fungal and bacterial chemicals.
