good fish jokes are hard to come up with. this one isn't about fish, but I'd say it's close enough.
2 crabs were at the beach. one crab went to get some ice cream for the 2 of them. on his way back with the ice cream, the ystarted melting so he ate them both. when he got to the other crab he explained why he ate all the ice cream. the other crab said: "you shellfish creep!"

your roommate is correct. we must be really bored to make jokes about fish. actually, I think I'll post this comic that I had here a while back thats not half bad. it's pretty much what non-hobbyists in general think of us.
