Well I have been to 3 petshops now in South africa and to be tottaly honest I have seen only 2 marine tanks setup and only 1 with marine fish in their so my question is simple do any south africans know if there is a adundant stock of marine fish in SA.
My second question is the following.... Is a marine fish tank more expensive to run? I have heard that you do not need a filter. But something that gets rid of the ammonia before it can even form to poision.
I would appreciate it very much if I could get a quick answer thanks _________________ ............quis custodiet ipsos custodes?............. |

Salt Water tanks are insanely more expensive to setup and run than most fresh water tanks, with the possible exception of high light planted tanks.
A "skimmer" bubbles proteins and waste products up and out of the tank, but you still need plenty of water movement. Powerheads are usually used.
Filtration from live rock, a skimmer, and powerheads would be a filtration system and that might be why you heard no other filters are necessary. So no filter isn't accurate... but yes, the skimmer removes wastes before they are turned into nitrate. _________________ "Just don't look in my fish room honey... it's just better for all of us. " |

GOOD NEWS...
here's a link to a web community based in your area, should be a big help, also note the ads for local retailers on this site:
