|

Does any one know anything about a little fish called "lamp eyes"? I have searched this site and have not as yet, found anything about them. They are a small plain fish with blue reflective eyes and a silver grey body. When I aquired mine they were very small (too small to put in with my other fish)but now are the size of a male guppy without the long tail. Are they cold water fish as some have told me? At the moment they are living in a tank of about 28c the same as my other fish. And do they breed by having live young or eggs? Any info would be welcome.
Thankyou in advance. |

These are a type of killifish. Many different species/genera go by this term but the most common right now is Aplocheilichthys normanii(spelling may be off). Unless you really know the fish it will be difficult to tell what species they are without good photos for others(not me!) to look at.
They are easy to keep, and lay eggs. Fry need very small live foods. Probably the best way to get more would be to put them in a heavily planted tank. _________________ 46 gallon bowfront tank

I have seen them in stores listed as Lamp Eye Rainbows, but I agree with the previous post that they are killifish. _________________ be the change you want to see in the world -gandhi- |

Hiya,
Look, I am no expert, but it sounds like what we put in dams to kepp them working well here in the Brisbane mountians... the Pacific Blue Eye
http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fishfacts/fish/psignifer.htm
The pictures on that site don't show how pretty they are really, and their eyes are very blue.
hope this helps,
