I have this one koi out in my pond and when I bought him he was all white with orange on his head and a little on his body. now, the orange spots are so light pink that they look white.I was wondering if this sort of thing happened to any of your fish and maybe someone knows what caused it.the pond is out in the sun 3/4 of the day.he grew a lot too from when I first got him.

I'm new to koi keeping, but from what I have read, color is not "fixed" in koi like it is in other fish. Depending on age and maturity, food, temperature and other factors, their colors can fade and then reapear- sometimes in a different pattern!

I have a young koi which I thought was going to have an orange head and a mostly white body with a few black "freckles." This morning, I look and he is showing a beautiful golden orange showing up on his body! And I think his black speckles are darkening and getting larger.

Enjoy your little koi! I think they are fantastic fish, with neat personalities!

What I meant to say, what that it is my understanding that the patterns on koi can disapear, shift, relocate and completely change their appearance. I am well aware that colors and shades can change on many fish, but I've never really had a fish that could totally "change it's spots" like that! I had a neat little bronze cory years ago that would normally be a very dull brownish color, and then whenever he'd see me start to feed him his algae pellet, he'd turn a shiny blueish green color- out of happiness I hope!
