Hello all....
I'm going to start a 30 gal fancy goldfish tank and wanted to know what the goldfish experts would say about putting 2 adult orandas or 2 adult ryukins? Can they happily live there or will I need to upgrade to a bigger tank? I'm going to double up on filtration and do the neccessary water changes...I just don't want to be stunting anyone's growth. Thanks. |

| A 50 or 60 gal would be better. (but always look for the biggest option). |

Hi,for adding adult sized Goldies like you want,I think two would be your limit in a 30 gal. tank.Last year,I got baby Orandas from a member that had them. They were 12 weeks old when I got them, and very tiny. For the year that's passed, my one baby is over 8 inches big with her tail, the other two are around 5-6 inches. With the one baby being that big.,the 30 gal. that they're in just seems like it's being outgrown. For the 4 Adult fish that you want to keep,I'd see them more in a 55 gallon tank. |

I'm only going to put one pair in, I just wasn't sure if orandas got any bigger than ryukins, or if either would be okay. |

I would go for orandas; they look more special than ryukins.
Hope all goes well _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice |

| I had two nice looking comets with very long fins in a 30 gallon. As soon as they start growing it becomes a difficult task keeping ammonia levels in check. I would suggest a larger tank even for just two goldfish (fancy or not). |

If it's not to cold in your area and you have the space, I would rather build a pond than have a tank, like joshuatree said "goldfish do better in ponds". I found that my goldfish are not as shy in the pond as they where in the tank. _________________ Years of fish keeping = Good advice |
